Every single registered domain has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain to the servers of a specific web hosting provider. That way, you've got both your website and your emails handled by the same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, like A and MX. The first one reveals which server manages the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, any time you enter a domain name in your Internet browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you may be sent to the servers of another service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having different records for the site and the e-mails means that you could have your website and your e-mails with two different companies if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

With a web hosting plan from our company, you're going to be able to create or change the A and MX records of your domains and subdomains easily through our advanced Hepsia hosting CP. Editing the default records requires 2 clicks and the creation of a new record requires just a few more clicks, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters, you'll not experience any issues. We have an extensive help section that will make things even easier. If you would like to change your e-mail provider and you have to set up a number of MX records in addition to the default 2, you can pick their priority i.e. which record is going to deal with your e-mails first when somebody sends you a message. Normally the new provider is going to tell you what these values need to be. With our shared plans, you will have complete control of your domain names and subdomains and you will be able to manage their A and MX records very easily and at any time.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with our Linux semi-dedicated service, will permit you to see the A and MX records for every one of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if needed, to edit any of them or set up new ones. Handling these records is quite easy since all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to provide you with 100 % control over all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different provider and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
